Description
This $5 gold commemorative coin was authorized by Congress to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the United States Constitution. These coins were only minted in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition as collector coins, rather than for general circulation. Each coin has a $5 face value and contains the same standard weight, size and fineness of other comparable $5 gold coins.
Design
The Constitutional Bicentennial $5 gold coin portrays a stylized eagle holding a massive quill pen on the obverse. Another large quill pen is featured on the reverse. To the left are nine stars, signifying the first colonies that ratified the Constitution. Four stars to the right represent the remaining original states. Both Uncirculated and Proof versions were minted at West Point.
